Sailing

East Cowes Sailing Club holds regular Thursday evening races throughout the summer months as well as a Sunday series in the autumn.

There are several boats which cruise extensively, and who are invited to make their adventures known to the sailing team who can award a prize for the seasons best log. All types of sailing boat are welcomed to cruise or race.

Racing

Racing takes place off the Shrape, with Courses in the central section of the Solent. During the season there are three series run on a Thursday Evening, racing starting from 18.30. In addition there is an Sunday Brunch series, during September and October, starting at 11.00.

We welcome entries from other Clubs as well as our own members, and try to provide good enjoyable racing and actively encourage many types of monohull boats.

Handicaps are largely but not exclusively based on the Portsmouth Yardstick combined with many years of data which allow fine tuning of handicaps for the local area and conditions. Prize giving typically takes place in late October.

Dinghies

The club has a growing group of dinghy sailors based in the dinghy park on East Cowes esplanade, with larger cruising dinghies stored in the club yard up river. There is informal sailing off the Shrape around high water on Mondays during the summer months.

Cruising

Medium to pocket-sized cruising yachts are well represented in the club. Club members vary in experience from complete novices, through weekend family sailors to veteran ocean passage-makers.

The club welcomes new cruising members from any background with any class of boat. We encourage all-comers (sail or power) to participate in club rallies.

There are a couple of opportunities, over the season, to join organised cruises in the company of other yachts and motor boats.

Prizes are awarded annually for the best log and most interesting cruise.
