Report on Rally to Southampton Town Quay (2)  3rd /4th  October 2026

This was an Autumn Rally organised by Graham Tracey. Perfect Sunny weather with no wind.

Five  boats went, Mike in Kaikoura,  Tim in Norm,  Tom and Julia in Who Jota, Paul in Monty Don, and Graham,  Maria and Connie (The dog) in Madrina,

Most people arrived about early afternoon, with Graham going early on Friday,

It was around a two-hour trip, somewhat more for Tom and Julia. The fisherman four (Paul, Tim. and Mike) went together.

We all ended up on Toms boat drinking strong beer and cider, after which some retired to their boats and Paul and Tim feasted on Burgers. Late afternoon we watched the cruise ships leave and a flock of starlings gathered,

Around 6.30pm we walked up to the Platform Tavern across the road for pre-dinner drinks. Dinner was excellent with the choice of pies, burgers etc, fish etc, We were also joined by Jane from the sailing club.  Two of us managed to have room for sticky toffee pudding! Less than favourable reports though from the bass as it was overcooked.

Time for bed, we eventually got used to the Red Jet Sunami which rocked the boats before it arrived and most people had a good sleep

The next day brought fog , most boats left about between 10 and 11 to avoid the fog.  Thankfully the red jet was cancelled to it was a bit quieter.  Tim left earlier and ran into the fog at the entrance to the Solent where he waited to experience a huge crane being transported up the river.

Mike and Paul had a go Mackerel fishing, with no joy.

In all a great trip. Look forward to the next Rallies in 2027.

Mike
