News - Mackerel Fish Off and BBQ Sunday 26th July . Treat for Guests , Meet at 10 am down club for boat choice .

Prize awarded at 1400 at the club house for biggest Mackerel. 

For BBQ bring drinks , Brugers and Rolls will be supplied. Fish caught, including any Bream will be cooked in afternoon/evening.  NOW CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER - TO BE ARRANGED

The comp on the 30th August  has now been cancelled and rescehduled for Saturday September 12th at 10 am

Report on fishing competition, Barneys cup for longest Mackerel 12th September 2026

After cancelling twice, we went for it, despite the forecast of the wind increasing after midday.

Most people left the pontoon about 10 Ish, 6 boats and 10 people; Mike, Debbie and Henry in Kaikoura; Barry and Bev in Baz1, Eddie in his boat; Shaun in Get Reel; Bob and his wife in his boat; and Ian in Egret.

Fishing was chasing the seagulls off Bramble bank, Ryde West Middle and other areas. Mike and Barry having no luck for Mackerel, fished off Castle Point for Bream. With the weather freshening, most people went back about midday.

Eddie was the clear winner of the Barneys cup with three mackerel. The biggest 30cm.  Well Done, Ed!  Those were the only fish caught, except Debbie caught a sea Urchin and a propellor, no harm done!

It was a good turn out for the BBQ and thanks to everyone who helped, with bringing down tables, cooking and washing up. All the people fishing ate food and Jack and his wife turned up as well as Martine. Food was great, burgers, sausages, fresh Mackerel and for dessert we had trifle.
