Report on Rally to Gins Farm (Royal Southampton Yacht Club) 13th /14th June 2026
Finally, the forecast was good and the wind was due to decrease with brilliant Sunshine
Six boats went, Mike in Kaikoura, Tim in Norm, Shuan in Get Reel and Graham, Maria and Connie (The dog) in Madrina, Joanna and Terry in Lady J, and Tony and Barry in Holly (for the day only)
The weather was sunny from the start with a moderate westerly wind. Most people arrived between 11 am and 1pm. It was a case of rafting up to three boats as Gins was expecting 7 “Ribs” for lunch from Trafalgar in Portsmouth. Some of us went for a pint around 1pm and a light bite (chips). The club were only providing light bites as they had no cook until next week.
After a couple of hours rest we went back to the club house about 6pm for a drink and further light bites, which were perfectly adequate, In the mean time Tony and Barry had left about 4pm for ECSC.
The evening was rounded up by a night cap on Madrina, Graham produced some 109 proof Pursers rum.
The next morning Norm, Get Reel and Kaikoura left between 9 and 10 am and tried fishing for some mackerel on the way back, with no success.
In all a great trip. Look forward to the next Rally on the 18/19 July at Haslar Marina with food at the Lightship.
Mike
