Report on Species Hunt fishing competition August 25th 2019

Five boats and 7 fishermen went out on a beautiful sunny and hot bank holiday Sunday to catch fish!

Lee in Womble left first, followed by Paul M and Steve in Inebriated Love, then Mike and Paul H in Kaikoura, followed by Mark and Richard in their own boats.

Kaikoura went for the pontoon at Red Funnel for Wrasse and was successful with three caught. They then headed off to Salt Mead Ledge off Thorness to top up their points with Bream.

Other boats headed for Ryde Middle West.

We all kept out of the way of the Powerboat race which had magnificent starts at 10 a.m and 10.15 a.m. It was a bit choppy at the start of the race around Cowes. Unfortunately, Kaikoura was only doing 20 knots, so couldn’t keep up, so we went back to fishing.

At the prize giving points were added for the fish caught, with a maximum allowance of 5 per species. Fish included included bream, mackerel, bass, scad, smoothound, undulate ray, thornback skate, conger and wrasse.

Paul M had the winning boat with Steve winning with 173 points, and Paul M a close second with 167 points.

Look forward to the next competition in October 20th. Watch the club house notice board and web site.

Cheers Richard and Mike
