It is with much sadness that I must inform you of the death of Glyn Davies, our Club President, on Sunday 21 st July, at St Mary’s Hospital. This followed a short illness, compounded by the recent loss of his youngest son Ivor.
Given Glyn’s stature within the annals of our Club, a stalwart member since 1960 and his wider and conspicuous involvement in the sailing community of Cowes in general since 1956, it is appropriate that a fuller account of Glyn’s contributions and achievements will follow this notice in due course.
In the meantime, it should be noted that Glyn was a skilled and enthusiastic yachtsman, helpful and supportive of others, a visible and ever-present member of our Club. As a mark of the man, he was elected to serve as an Officer of the Club for nearly 60 years; as Commodore, Vice and Rear Commodore, Race Officer, Vice President and most recently as our President.
Our condolences rest with Glyn’s wife Coral and son Gareth.
Conal Grier, Commodore ECSC.
The funeral of Glyn Davies will take place at the Isle of Wight Crematorium at 11.15 on Thursday 22nd August.
The service will be followed by a wake at the Island Sailing Club, to celebrate Glyns life. Glyns ECSC friends and associates are invited to join the family at the Island.
