Despite the storm the day before four boats managed to get out for the first real competition of the year for the biggest Ray. Although Richard had a slow start, Paul, Leggy and Dan were out early. The wind was a moderate NW to start, but eased off after lunch with the sun coming out. Fish caught were mostly dogfish and smoothound, with a 10lb one caught of the brambles by Steve. At closure of fishing about 5 pm, three rays were caught, with the winning thornback of 6lb caught by Steve followed by Dan with a spotted Ray of 4lb and Leggy with a thornback of around 3lb. First, second and third prizes were awarded at the clubhouse at 6 pm, accompanied by a beer.
What a great start! The next competition will be for the biggest Smoothound on May 12th.
Cheers Richard Davis and Mike Harvey
